I work in pictures. I’m a dreamer. I use my imagination and creativity to solve problems. I’m one of those people. But what happens when you out-of-no-where lose your creative mojo?
A couple of weeks ago, I deplorably felt uninspired, unexcited and unsatisfied. I was bored and tired. I really had no reason to feel the way I did, but nonetheless I felt it. I couldn’t wait for this unimaginative and uninventive cycle to end. It was most frustrating feeling this lackluster because just the week prior, I felt amazing and indestructibly inspired.
As creative human beings, it’s very natural for us to have these cycles of inspired ups and (too soon) after, uninspired (and seemingly boring) downs. And if you’re anything like me, the downs can sometimes feel torturous. Mainly because we’re comparing it to our not-so-long-ago ups where we have never felt more alive.
Your Way of Letting Go
What if these frustrating moments of downs are really just our way of letting go of what no longer serves us, aka dead, heavy energy? What if it’s just a period and a peeling of a layer that needs to be released in order for us to reach our true bliss? Perhaps it’s the creative types wave of release in order to recharge.
Just as a snake must first shed its skin before its brand new coat reveals itself, the same goes for us humans (metaphorically speaking, of course.)
For my entire adult life, I tend to experience these bout’s of an uninspired shedding (if you will), and through a few tips, tricks and some dedication, I am learning how to come out of the other end of these periods sooner than later.
How To Get Your MoJo Back (Baby!)
1.) You ain’t gotta be “ON” er-day. In my research, I learned that creative personality types normally have loads of creative energy but as a result, need to recharge their batteries more frequently than the average person, so they enter periods of inner reflection, rest and of course, sleep.
I may not be super creative in my everyday work endeavors and I can accept the fact that I won’t always have the answers to what I think need answers. I don’t need to be little Ms. Full-of-Energy and little Ms. All-the-Answers. That sounds fucking exhausting. Now I can recharge without feeling guilty or lazy.
As you begin to accept your, what seems like, black and white world, you can then transition easily into the next and simplest step.
2.) Pray. Pray. Pray. You literally forget about the power of prayer when you resist how you’re feeling. Once you accept, you get to remember you’re not in this alone. Even if you don’t believe in a higher power, pray. You don’t have to believe. You don’t have to go to church. You don’t have to be a perfect angel to ask for help. And you most certainly do not have to save your prayers for "more important" events. The other side is limitless.
If you do believe in a higher power, you are well aware of the metaphysical team of cheerleaders and helpers you have on the other side that seriously can’t wait for you to ask for help! (Hint: They can’t help if you don’t ask.) What did I pray for? Inspiration. When did I get it? The next day.
3.) Say thank you. Once you receive your inspiration (and you will) thank yourself. Thank the higher power. Thank God. Thank the Universe. Thank your Angels. Thank me for writing this blog post (if you must). Be grateful for guidance as it is utterly magical to recognize and feel the beauty of the love and support that you have inherited, just for being you.
