My New Years resolution for 2016 is to live life outside of my comfort zone. I decided that I had completed a sufficient amount of inner reflection and personal development and that it was time to position this new me outside of the comfy, cozy box I had been living in. I have dreams and the only way to get there is to do something different and something new…something I’ve never done before. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, right?!
So I've begun to say "yes!" to things I normally wouldn't say yes to. Social events, business coaching, charity work and really just generally putting myself out there, even though it feels scary to me.
I knew this year was going to be busy and crazy and beautiful, but I didn’t know I would be stretched this much – and it’s only February! *key the violins*
Okay, okay things definitely aren’t that bad or that hard on paper. BUT they can be…in my head.
So you have your dreams. You have your goals. You have an idea of what you'd like to achieve. This year is the year to fucking go for it. Here are my quick tips on why you’ll reach them only outside of your comfort zone and how to do it.
It’s all in your head.
Our minds, particularly our egos, have a very hard time accepting change. Pieces of your mind are programmed to be the pessimist, telling you you’re not enough or that it’s going to be too much work. The only way to overcome those thoughts of your mind is to understand that they are not who you are. Become the observer of those thoughts. See them as separate from who you are.
Accept the fact that it’s not always going to be easy.
It’s not going to be easy. It’s not meant to be easy. Everyone has that annoying voice in their head or events in life that happen and are not according to plan. But it’s the ones that have the courage, the strength and the faith to push through it that come out the other end. Plus, who wants easy? Imagine watching a movie where everything goes exactly as the main character plans. No suspense, no build up, no climax – no thank you! Boring!
GET COMFORTABLE IN UNKNOWN TERRITORY.
So you feel a call to start your own business? Or maybe you just want to raise a happy family. Maybe you want to manifest $1,000,000. My suggestion is to stop worrying about exactly how you’re going to get there. Stop worrying about what tomorrow is going to bring. You don’t know what it will bring. You gotta learn to be okay with not having all the answers and trust that the answers and your next steps will come to you at the exact right time. Tomorrow is unknown. Hell, an hour from now is unknown. Be okay with that. Relinquish control. Let go.
Let go and surrender.
The Universe sent me “The Surrender Experiment” by Michael Singer at the exact perfect time. The Universe sent it to me when I needed it most and when I was ready. Trust that the Universe will send you what you need (good or bad, it doesn’t care about your preference which is why you have to be okay with living outside of your comfort zone,) at the exact right time to achieve what you are striving for.
Excerpt from The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer:
“All the events that had unfolded so far in my experiment with surrender had shown me that the more I was willing to let go of the inner noise created by my personal likes and dislikes, the more I could see subtle synchronicities in what was unfolding around me. These unexpected concurrences of events were like messages from life gently nudging me in the direction she was going. I listened to these subtle nudges instead of listening to the not-so-subtle mental and emotional reactions caused by my personal preferences. This is how I practiced surrender in everyday life.”
If you follow these steps, you'll probably get more than what you are asking for.
By all means, go for your goals. Reach for the stars. However, it may not go according to plan because you are meant to have more, learn more, do more, be more. Trust this and watch the magic unfold.
